A few years back, I purchased a supposed "klone" of a certain pedal because I already had a real one and I wanted to actually A/B them. The seller had 10 of them at the time. By itself, the klone pretty well sucked and didn't even compare well with a cheap mass-produced ordinary pedal. When compared against the real thing, it was extremely pathetic.
The point, however, is about a week after I bought the klone (auction), I started receiving messages from people who said that they had seen the ad and had seriously considered buying it, but wanted to know, since I had purchased one if I could recommend that they buy one too, since it was a way for them to get a much cheaper "boutique" pedal. I told them to save their money. I felt sorry for the people who went ahead and bought one thinking that the sound that they were getting was comparable to the real thing....

Well the only cheap clone of a handmade pedal I have tried was the TOD from Dano, I have a Tim and let me tell you that Dano sounded like sing compared to the Tim.

I have an HBOD and I refuse to turn it off, might as well wire the circuit into my guitar.

I can't imagine a clone of the HBOD sounding all that good unless Bjorn was to make a clone of it.

Now that I have been building for a few years I realize that there is something that a builder adds to the sound of a pedal that is unique. I can't make a pedal that doesn't sound like I made it. Even the amps I make sound like I made them. Everything pedal I have tried that Bjorn made sounds like he made it.

I looked at the HBOD circuit at FSB and was jawdropped, as were others with the circuit bending. It seems as if Bjorn gets a sound in his head then finds the circuit that will get there and strips away 95% of the capacity of what it does in an unrefined state and takes the 5% that is left and then build a pedal with that most excellent sound.

I caught this thread late, and every one of those other threads are gone. Can't imagine an HBOD knockoff. I can buy a top dollar enigne, trannie, clutch, and wheels, but never build an F1 car.
