Funnily enough, you may remember I only became aware of Bjorn and his designs when an old delay pedal of mine broke and he was suggested to me as the man capable of nursing it back to health. I contacted Donner and he was kind enough to put me in touch with BJ, who was kind enough to agree to look at the pedal.

Sure enough he worked his magic and fixed it, from there I ordered myself a PGC out of sheer curiosity. That pedal I found to be nothing short of astonishing and it instantly set a new standard of "keeper" for me, triggering my interest in BJ's other stuff.

Next came my Tea Green EQ, in a Donnerbox which was originally to house an EGDM, but I changed my mind. PPF and Donnerboxed Mighty Copper Mini Vibe followed soon after and most recently the VCF has become the latest addition.

Here's the first one I ever bought:

Then, after that came this green guy:

I bought the DR used from a message board somewhere...can't remember, although I think it passed through Tim's (Corleone) hands at one point. So, that got the BJF juices flowing. Then Donner got me foaming when he let me try out the Tri-Color Overdrive, which essentially was the proto for the production model Little Green Wonder. Mine was one of the first made...bought new from either Toyz or Custom-Sounds...can't remember now.

Now it's the SBEQ, and BJ had me swear up and down that I would never get rid of it except back to him. So...I won't let this one go, needless to say.

I've only got a honey bee so far but that's a finances issue rather than a desire issue! Next will probably be the Pine Green Compressor and an EGDM.

My Story...

Postby DocRock » Fri Mar 02, 2007 10:50 am

I first discovered the utter sonic joy that is BJF Electronics last June when I had the pleasure of meeting both BJ and Donner at Chicago ToneFest. At the time I was using a JTM-45 style amp. BJ took about an hour out of his day to give me a personal demo of a DRD and an EGDM. Both are amazing pedals (for different reasons), but the DRD was hands-down the best-sounding distortion pedal I had ever heard. I still think it's the best. And BJ is an extremely nice guy, who is passionate about what he does and only too happy to help people take the sounds they have in their heads and make them a reality. We became friends shortly thereafter.

As the summer was going by, BJ and I had kept in touch via email. I had been using a Klon Centaur for more of my "classic rock / blues" overdrive tones, but I was unhappy with it only because I had to turn my amp up so loud for the Klon to do what I wanted. The Klon is a great pedal, by the way...not Bill's fault...he did warn me that it works best with an amp that is already getting into output tube distortion. Needless to say, my Plexi just wouldn't give up the goods easily enough. So BJ and I had exchanged several emails about what types of solutions could be had for my problem.

Knowing what my amp was, and that I was already using a DRD, he devised a custom overdrive for me (the Dynamic Amber Overdrive), a prototype. With this pedal, I was able to get many of the "classic" type tones that I had wanted from my Centaur, but over a much more flexible volume spread. And the DRD worked as my hard rock crunch rhythm. And then, the real magic happened when stacking DAOD > DRD. That sound was over-the-top, arena rock stardom-tone!!!

The Klon is long gone. But I also ended up having to sell my Plexi and my DRD because I came across the opportunity to get my hands on a used Guytron GT100, an amp that I had GAS'd over for YEARS. I couldn't pass it up, but didn't have the $$$ to buy it outright. So, the DRD is gone...but I still think it's the best distortion pedal ever. I now use my DAOD with the Guytron set to a mild overdrive on it's "clean" channel...and am even happier with my tone. The DAOD is perhaps my favorite pedal ever.

There are certainly more BJF's to come for me. I have never encountered pedals of this caliber before. I will be a lifelong customer and friend to BJ.

Thanks for reading, if you made it this far....

it all started with th BBBOD as I was playing bass alot and it was easily available to buy.
Next came the BBOD, figured I would try it since it was being discontinued.
I needed a EQ so that was next.
I then got on the list for the R since I was using my greenbacks.
Then it was the LRT and SYT from Mtoyz as they were in stock and I was curious about more BJF pedas by then.
I soon placed a custom paint job order for a HB and EGDM.
Got a 2SMV from Donner as well.
Picked up a used DRD a used BPB and PGC all in the same week(different places, actually good deals).
I was in need of fuzz at this point so I got a new PPF from a dealer .
I traded for a LGW.
The yellow FF arrived.
And last but not least the beloved VCF.
And yes the CAF and RRB are on order!

The missing sopt is home for the SYT which is out for repair, and the BBBOD is on my bass rig.

cabo, wow

I'd love to hear the order of those effects and perhaps a little about why you chose that order, if you have the time.

Also, I like the Vox patterned Emerald Green!
