good news and bad news regarding SHOD vs HBOD

so, after a few weeks of heavy testing, and the addition of the pine green compressor to the sweet honey OD....

i have decided that the combo of the PGC and SHOD will indeed get you quite close to the beloved Honey Bee. Good News!!!

however:

the price of the PGC + the SHOD is more than the HBOD. Bad News

actually, did a big outdoor gig for bikers today, big concert/party type thing, got to open my amp amp and let it SING, along with the PGC and SHOD. very very very nice.....even got complimented on my tone by the other guitarist we used for the gig, who normally makes fun of my effects boxes (since he is a "straight into the amp" sort of guy)

i am getting better at using the SHOD, and using more focus, turned to about 9 pm on the dial. The PGC added to the SHOD gives a little bit more of that wonderful honeybee dynamics. Still not exactly like a honeybee, but a VERY good compromise for me 8)

Big STINGING strat tone with the SHOD.....very nice :D

Man, you're just determined to sell me a PGC.

My HBO should arrive this week. I have a feeling I'll end up with both SHOD and HBO onboard, even tho I hate to give up the extra space. SHOD's brightness can be a bit much with the Strat - but as you say, just has a learning curve. The lapsteels I gig with present another tonal dichotomy - old bakelite Rick loves the SHOD, the Stringmaster will likely favor the HBO. This also has me thinking about... dare I say it... the PGC.

PGC is the pedal that is "most on" during the nite for me. 8)

i haven't had a compressor on my board in ten years, and now could not think of NOT having one.

steel guitars....mmmmm.......you NEED PGC for those.

PGC "body" knob is interesting. i noticed at stage volume that when it was full CW to the right, it got very midrange-full. best position seemed to be 2 oclock with PGC.

Nice job. I do think this demo will be helpful to HB users contemplating a SHOD.

My HB arrived yesterday. I've barely begun to get acquainted with it but I can emphatically agree these are two very different ODs. On some level I think I was expecting a sort of lower gain SHOD that was voiced a bit differently - not so.

By the way, Bobby, you have your LGW on the wrong side of the SHOD :D

thank you!

you may be right.....i am gonna move the LGW to the END of the dirt chain and see how that works. LGW boosted by SHOD is probably going to be REALLY good 8)

oh boy! i actually just got done trying it LIKE THAT......thanks for the suggestion!

Bjorn hinted to me that the LGW into the SHOD might be.....interesting 8)

he was RIGHT.

the SHOD brings a new level of crunch and ZING to the LGW, and it just a great combo stacked that way.

i thought maybe it would be better with LGW into SHOD, to maybe add some more mid warmth to the SHOD....

but no, i TOTALLY like it better with the SHOD into the LGW. VERY VERY nice

Hmmm you might also consider putting an SBEQ at the end of your chain ... it would blend in some of the different topends of those two pedals and give you more of a cohesive 'sound' when swithcing between different guitars and drives....

Yeah this is a great stack to think of in 'amp' terms --- SHOD as preamp and LGW as power amp sections ----- incasing it between a PGC and an SBEQ really gives you a finished and very versatile pallette of tones in to a cleanish amp....

Oh thanks a lot Donner. Bobby just convinced me to order a PGC, now you're pushing a SBEQ. Where will this madness end? :D

Bobby and Sebastian are obviously conspiring. Within hours of my giving in to the PGC, suddenly, mysteriously, he has some in stock.
