Candy Apple Honey Buzz

No, it's sadly not a custom order two in one pedal to gasp at and lust after, although such a thing would be truly wonderful.

I just believe that the Candy Apple Fuzz into Honey Bee is perhaps my absolute favourite BJF pairing. I used to think PGC into SBEQ was the be all and end all, but no more. The Honey Bee's ability to take whatever sounds the Candy Apple spits out and sculpt them into almost an entirely different thing altogether is a joy to behold, it's like having another amp with a variable speaker to put between the fuzz and your amp.

I've also been experimenting with the sag option of my Flatliner supply and found that lowering the voltage supplied to the CAF and HBOD down to what I believe to be around 6.5v-7v, can be great fun. You see plenty of talk about running pedals at increased voltage and not so much on reducing it, although I think BJ has suggested elsewhere on here to try lowering voltage in HBOD and DRD.

I'd go so far as to say that I really prefer the HBOD run this way, it reduces dynamic range a little but the pedal becomes easier to drive into delivering that sweet break up, especially with the Nature control left of noon. I'm torn on the CAF as the octave and gated sounds are better to me at 18v, but yet I prefer the other tones at lower voltage, always nice to have the option of both I suppose.

Anyone else want to share in this Candy Apple Honey Buzz?

this does NOT surprise me

the CAF can be so unruly, it needs the golden syrup of the honeybee to "tame" it.

i used the CAF mainly at that 11:59 am "octave fuzz" setting, but felt like i was only using 10% of the capability of that pedal.

sorry i let go of it, as it is a good mate to the SWF, between those two i have most fuzz needs covered.

may get another one day, the CAF is really special 8)

never got to try the CAF into the HB, i am sure it is cool. howsabout a vid/sound ckip? :D

Teahead,

I have tried my 'Bee before and after almost every pedal I own, except, unfortunately, my CAF, which is on loan to one of the best guitar pickers in the land. I really like using it after some of the nastier OD's as it does "smooth the edges", even works well after the PPF.

I have been toying with the voltages on the Flatliner and agree the variation from the voltage sag is as good as increasing it on some pedals but don't get much effect change from moving the resistance dial. Do you normally just set the resistance at full clockwise and vary the voltage?

I'm interested to know how the CAF would sound in front of the Flametop as I find myself using it after other OD's and distortions well.

As Slim said, post some videos; they are always good and as for me, I always learn something in the process!

Hey guys, yeah I'll try to get a clip or two together to capture the effect the HB has after the CAF. It really seems to act just as a cranked amp would, shaves off the biting highs, enhances the mids, while also seeming to "slash" the speakers to loosen the low end in a wonderful way with its trademark sag, the best I've ever heard from a pedal. It also makes me think as if the Honey Bee transforms the Candy Apple from silicon to germanium when it's switched in, although I have no idea what transistors are even in the CAF to begin with.

Cork, I have to agree that the variable resistance has no real effect on my BJFs, perhaps BJ has the circuit designed in such a way as to eliminate the changing resistance of a used battery? I thought I was hearing the HB warmer and thicker with resistance cranked when compared to minimum, but I had Mrs. Tea change it for a blind test and I couldn't tell the difference. She's so sceptical and loves to help prove or disprove anything I'm spending money on! Maybe this would be more audible with more primitive circuits? I'll have to try it powering my Rangemaster and see how it performs, I've always used a battery with that pedal.
