MP TOP with Bass Guitar??

Postby LuvMusic » Sat Jul 11, 2009 10:33 am

:?: I've got a line on a good deal for a Tiny Orange Phaser. The description indicates it is "tuned for guitar." Any insight, experience or thoughts on how well this pedal will work with bass?

The "tuned for guitar" description has me a little concerned.

Thanks for the help!

i believe 'tuned for guitar' is in reference to most phasers being tuned for keyboards.

ive used it with the left side of mix, more classic slow phase with bass a few times and was fine , I almost just prefer a flanger with bass though. but it didnt seem to lose any frquency if that was also part of your question.

did you pick one up by now? if so what do you think?

I did pick one up and overall I think it is an excellent phaser. It does work well with with bass. I especially like the TOP with my active bass with 3 band eq. Here are my impressions:

o The amount of varitey you can get with the Mix control is excellent. I've been bale to go from "gooey" to an almost trem effect. I even got a decent "Leslie" sound with the pedal.

o The TOP is one of the quietest phasers I have ever used. Other phasers and modulation pedals I have used start to make noise when you crank-up the effect and time controls. Not the TOP.

o Bass response is good. In fact, with the Mix control set to the full left (CCW) and the Resonance control set all the way to the left (CCW) it seems like the pedal may be adding some lower end harmonics. I have noticed some loss in the lower end with the Mix control setting between the 2:00 - 5:00 position, but I expected that (here is where my active bass comes in handy). It's a different phasing effect.

o The effect is a little more subtle than what I am use to. I'm not saying I don't like the effect, it's just different than what I am use to.

That's my impressions up to this point. Still learning the feel for the pedal because it is so flexible.
