O.K., I've been bitten by the BJF bug and acquired a 3BOD. My inquiring mind wants to know, what other BJF pedals would you consider "bass friendly?" Ones that maintain the low end.

Or, let's even expand the discussion. I've read about the custom shop. Even though I'm not sure how to place a custom shop order, which BJF effects would be good candidates for a custom shop mod to help make them more bass friendly?

BBBOD, FGC and FRF. (Of course you've read what I wrote in the BBBOD thread):

Pine green was a great compressor for bass.

Candy apple fuzz was good considering how rediculous it got. Maybe not 100% low end, but seriously beefy and enough fun that you ignore the settings that lost some bottom.

Model H. I'm an idiot for selling it. I've said before that it didn't keep ALL your lows, but the roll off wasnt terrible at the bottom of the tone knob. Higher on the tone knob there were less lows, but it REALLY brought out the mids in a nice cutting kinda way if thats ever our thing on bass. also, lower gains were pretty good with keeping lows, its the cranked gain and higher tone settings that did it. If you're just a bassist, something in this vein with more bottom would be sweet, but it would loose some of its unique voice on guitar (I had it in a parallell loop with a BBBOD for a while... Sounded unbelievable)

I'd love to try a Little green wonder too... so many bass moded tube screamers out there that people love, I should really try an LGW (and a phaser and autowah ) eventually... but I think that won't be until I look for a model H again one day...

yeah I would try PGC/FGC, SWF, FRF, LGW and any of the modulation effects. there is also a bass version SWAW out that is oh so sweet!

Thanks to all who have responded, the info is very helpful. Also sounds like I need to use the search function .

If anybody else wants to chime in, please do. I'm still on the upside of learning about BJF pedals. BTW, the directory is very helpful. All the acronyms for these pedals make me dizzy and the directory really helps. Part of being a neophyte I guess.

A bass version of the SWAW? Any more info on this, anyone?

I don't believe there are any need to make a Bass version? From what I've heard the SWAW sounds amazing with bass, but I have not tried it yet for my self.

and add that there are a few interesting possiblities for custom bass circuits... just not enough hours in the day at the moment.....
A Bass Fuzz is very possible ....

as well as a Bass EQd Modle H , Ive known a few guys that used HiWatts for Bass and while yes alot of the difference is the different cabs used - that could be compensated for ( Gee if only BJ was good at making unique tone controls ) though I think the 3BOD does this very well -- and its the only t hing Ive found that simply sounds like your bass amp got dirtier and louder without changing the EQ (unless you want it too )...

perhaps even building a DI box around a 3BOD with extra EQ

If there were any way of making a custom bass fuzz reality my brother would definitely buy one. I think he actually spoke some about that with Björn last spring, and have been talking a lot about taking that up for real. Very cool!

WOW...sounds like some thought has been given to bass tuned pedals.....I can't wait to see and hear what the outcome may be.

Received my 3BOD today and just got done taking it for a test drive. "Dirtier and louder without changing EQ" is a good description. Or, I could get dirtier without getting louder, or I could get very dirty without getting louder or, I could get very dirty and louder (all while maintaining the bottom end). You get the picture. Seems like this pedal can cover the spectrum of OD and is just what I was looking for!
