You know, you're right. The EGD doesn't really cover much of the "low gain" Vox sound, it's much more of a cranked Vox vibe. Even if you keep the distortion between 9- 11 o'clock or so, it starts to get pretty crunchy. If you go much beyond 12 o'clock, it gets into Orange territory. But, the HB is built around a much lower gain and touch sensitive platform so, at least for me, the combo works great.

Ok, with initial experimentation, I'm finding the SHOD>SYOD V2 to be one helluva combo. Really kickin', crunchy and sweet still with plenty of dynamics and do-able noise floor.
Once my studio is finished I will be doing some sound-clips/videos demos for the BJF overdrive side.

i messed around with them each way,,,I like having a bit more control with the SHOD going into the DRD for stacking, plus it seems to add some mid push umph into the DRD which I like . although the other way around is alot of fun too, couldnt go wrong stacking it either way as sonically it works fine, just up to ones personal taste.

The EGDM-HBOD is still a mighty tasty sounding stack, but not quite as versatile as DRD-HBOD.

The main reason, I think, is because the DRD has quite a wide range of distortion. The EDGM does cover a lot of ground (think cranked Vox to Orange), but the DRD has a bit less compression and a bigger gain range.

Man, both of these are really great. The HBOD isn't for everyone, but I'd encourage anyone that tries it to give it some time. I love how it sounds for raunchy rhythms all by itself, but kicking on a killer distortion pedal in front of it is amazing.
