SWF and other fuzzes

Postby BTBAM » Tue Jun 16, 2009 8:32 pm

So...I'm trying to figure out a few things.

I have Fuzz Factory, Skreddy Ernie and Skreddy Top Fuel on my board.

The Fuzz Factory does some of the crazier sounds, I keep it more of a velcro kill signal sort of fuzz right now.

The Ernie is dialed in to a pretty sweet lead sound.

The Top Fuel is dialed for a very creamy lead, but can also chord if I need it to for some thickness.

Well....I've been trying to think if a SWF would be able to replace something.

Thing is, if I were to get a SWF, I'd have to let something else go (for cost and for space). So, what territory could/would it cover? Would it sit somewhere on its own?

well I think you hit part of it - it would depend on how you use t he other pedals and what characteristics of each you like.... and what might be missing but useful......

for me the SWF is sort of the fuzz buddy for a medium over drive - its a good over all sound and really sounds good into a drive to make a singing lead sound boost......

and it has its own little odd signature 'hairdo'

of course input and speakers and application have a lot to do with this 8)

it's a very elegant and refined fuzz, slips into OD territory, not a lot of gain, no "velcro or gated" type stuff.

but it's one of my fave lead guitar sounds ever. and stacks VERY well into other boxes.

i try not to encourage anyone to go down that rabbit hole.....but if you get "bitten" by the SWF, it will haunt you.
