SHOD - maybe the quest is over for me

Postby huckleboogie » Tue Jun 02, 2009 6:19 pm

hey everyone- i need to share this.

hate the "best pedal i ever played" talk, but with this one -SHOD, that is- i feel happy as never before. i guess every player has something he or she is lookin for, and with the SHOD i entered territory where i can truly express myself. and by that i mean a dynamic, amplike, sensitive OD! i found that before , most notably in my Barber LTD, the BBOD and the King of Tone, but all of them on the side had something i didnt like, so there was a price to pay so to speak....mostly it was due to stealing bass and /or adding mids (not the BBOD though). i love the BBOD but this puppy here gives me something inspiring that the BBOD doesnt have, hard to put my finger on it.....and of course this is just me...
had the luck to play 4 gigs in a row with the sweet honey, and it was some of my best nights ever!!! be it my new Vinetto Strat and/or the SHOD. never before i was able to pull so many colors out of a guitar just by picking dynamics, pickup selector and vol/tone pots. i believe for me this is it!!

:D forgive me, i'm just so freakin' happy. what a great time to be a guitar player.

i'm right there with you man. i couldn't believe the range of tones i've been getting the past few nights. stuff i used to use multiple pedals for i can now cover with the SHOD and my volume knob, and they've never sounded better. Yeah, we're honeymooning, but I do believe its the real deal!
My BJFE- Some special ones. Some standard ones. I love them all just the same.

The quest will never be over, but the SHOD will always travel with me

yeah, Newark. this honey is sure sweet:-) and i'm already positive it will remain so after the honeymoon phase!
and the quest for TONE....right, sometimes i think it will never be over but i also envy guitar players who stick to their gear once they find sthg they like. Mike Landau comes to mind immediately....it saves time and one can work on their playing. and i hope i will get to that point someday, 8) with this one i can feel i'm there....well lets talk in 6 months but hey, just saying!
i wonder when our friend Bobby D will chime in with his first impressions.
too bad that last nite wasnt recorded, cuz i think i had some of the best tones i ever achieved. might have been the wine tho :D

it seems that everyone is coming to the same conclusion that BJ had already told us...that they are TWO DIFFERENT PEDALS.

some people are going to want nothing else but the honeybee.....there is indeed a special quality to that pedal. i felt it when i used it on gigs.

but i wished for exactly the things that the SHOD does....little tighter bass response, little more "focus", little tighter all around.

expectations have been VERY high for the SHOD, but so far it seems that the pedal is MEETING them

Hi Huckleboogie--can you elaborate on the above EQ/frequency-wise? I'm looking forward to picking one up myself, as per the videos and the +feedback here on the forum. Are you running it at 9 volts, or have you juiced it up a bit and found more tonal nirvana like some other posts I've read? I have a Deluxe HB that I'm absolutely smitten with, and wondering if I should even bother picking up a BBOD.
The DHBOD sounds great with all my amps(Matchless SC-30, 70's Marshall 20 watt, and even my '61 Blonde Bandmaster which is very tough to mate for me to get a great sounding OD or distortion with a pedal.
Thanks

hi there. one thing bout the SHOD, it definitely doesnt take away bass frequencies. (just like the BBOD). other great pedals, like the KOT or the Eternity, DO cut a little bass, not necessarily a bad thing. however for me retaining the bass is a good thing, since i don't boost already dirty sounds, i use clean amps for my basic sound. the honey bee is great for that, even made the coldest amp sound warm and rich. i will go on a 2 week tour on friday, and i'll see if the SHOD can do the same for me. like i said, with my setup here, its tonal heaven, and i'm curious how it gels with brighter amps. btw i did use it at regular 9v so far. i want to take only 2 dirt pedals and still wondering what else to take to drive the SHOD a little harder....hmm. BBOD or DRD i guess. LGW might be a perfect match too....
