BJFE Third Knob Appreciation Thread!

Postby Teahead » Thu May 28, 2009 11:28 am

I suppose the Nature control of the Candy Apple Fuzz comes straight to mind for me. No idea how BJ does it, but somehow he squeezed four different fuzzes and a few variations thereof into however many degrees that knob travels. The interaction with the Fuzz control serves to further expand the versatility. Pale Green Compressor, Honey Bee and Pink Purple Fuzz also feature a somewhat unconventional third knob. This thread should celebrate these controls and be a place to share your appreciation for them. 8)

absolutely... the CAF 3rd knob is filled to the brim with secret little sounds... i love it! and the Bee's nature control... so subtle, really gotta have good ears for it but when you appreciate the changes it is something special for sure

and what can i say about the PGC... the body knob is just so wonderful. almost fully CCW and you've got a nice little tone enhancer/booster, crank it to CW and you can get into near ross-style squash territory, but it always manages to retain that PGC sparkle...

bah! i shouldn't have been so hasty to sell my PPF. I really wanna try one again now
My BJFE- Some special ones. Some standard ones. I love them all just the same.

"nature" control is MAGIC. "body" knob on LGW is amazing.

that's part of the magic that the uninitiated DO NOT UNDERSTAND about BJF pedals.......the magic third knob.

This is very true - and really shows BJs depth as a designer - he is one of the few people who can listen to a great tone and figure out what will be the most useful things to control on it without screwing it up AND be able to design that exact control with that exact function - no mean feat - this aint no treble rolloff factory 8)

some others to note,,

I always thought the Model H tone knob has interesting way of playing with depth of sound.

Also the new SHOD 3rd knob acting as what seeems to me as a distortion limiter of sort.

and the mix control on the TOP is quite unique too.

YES.......that "mix" knob on the TOP is where the magic happens. very under-rated phaser, that one.....

oh yeah and the Sky Blue OD doesnt get talked up much - but theres a pretty amazing range of control on that sucker --- I think it has so much control it doesnt have a singular identity and that may make it hard for people to put it in box they are comfortable talking about.......

that's another one i only tried once, and didn't spend enough time with it to learn it......i bet there's some amazing tones in that box, the AMWM that i tried was really quite interesting, but my focus was on the DRD and the Model H and the SYOD and the SWF and.........so many dirt pedals, so little time
