Newfound appreciation for the MGMV/SBMV!!

Postby NewarkWilder » Mon May 04, 2009 11:19 pm

So I've never been a traditional univibe guy, got all the respect in the world for Hendrix and Trower etc etc but have never really tried to emulate that sound. Still though, the gear nerd in me has been itching to try a variety of vibes to find the one that was really right for me, if one was at all. Well, lo and behold, the one that is right for me has been under my nose the whole time!

Since the MGMV isn't really a standard univibe for some reason I kind of wrote it off into some different category of modulation--have always loved it, but for whatever reason I never saw it as the end of my vibe search. But ya know what? Now that I've tried several other ones, every damn one I A/B with my SBMV I wind up coming back to the SBMV. The throb is just so beautiful, and on the 2 stomp the cupsize switch is just incredibly useful.

I'm still waiting to try a FoxRox Aquavibe, and if I can ever get my hands on an old Perscription Electronics Ultravibe i'll probably check that out too, but I no longer have any expectations of anything "beating" the SBMV for the sound I want.

SBMV is rediculous and i am very much in love with the sound. I usually have it on with low velocity and amplitude to get a kick ass enhaced treble soud...it breathes new life into my Swart but enhances the cleans so well...jazz with this is a dream! also running two amps clean and placing it infront of one is fantastic as well...super unique sound...i love to run it after tonebender type fuzzes...

!
Also try turing the speed up 1/3 or so and the amplitude near max and play in time with the light...try running arpeggios and sweet lines...i call this "riding the wave" as you get a reallllllly cool almost filter sound out of it...but then you can hold notes and get the vibe aspect immediatley...

i really gotta say the MGMV is one of the few pedals that will stay on my board! because of it's uniqueness- neither being another univibe clone nor a tremolo- it gives You Your own identity, so to speak. not sounding like anyone/anything else. great thing. much betterIMHO then hunting down the perfect univibe clone out there.
i use it mostly for comping to get a fat organ thing and people keep askin me about "that sound". great, great pedal!

I miss my MGMV just about every time I play. :( As Robapov said, the EQ that pedal brings is one of its best features, slightly scooped mids, fat, round and yet tight bottom with a nice chiming top, mmm. I owned a SBEQ and PGC the entire time I had my MGMV and could never manage to mimic the MGMV's EQ, even with those pedals. The modulation ain't half bad either! 8)

MGMV on some band jamming...
