A delightful problem

Hi everybody, I´ve been roaming this forum for about six months and thought it was time to let my presence be known. I must say that i´m really impressed with the relaxed atmosphere here and the way you people conduct yourselves. I find that to be quite rare in anonymity of what is known as the internet. Oh well here´s my problem.

I got a BBOD today wich i´m looking to retire my sansamp gt2. I have seen in previous post that the blue can be quite picky where in the chain it should be placed. I know that i probably will try it in every single position. But my bandmates tends to get quite annoyed when i start fiddeling about instead of rehearsing. Any input you guys have is most appriciated.

I guess my main question is, do i put it infront of the CAF or After? Or any other postions you think i shoúld try?
Also i read somwhere that the BPB was made to go with the BBOD, i dont have a BPB but i do have an old EH-LPB booster that is currently off my board. Should bring up there with the BBOD?

My current setup is Tuner>Dunlop rotosphere>Gt2>CAF>Telenordia tremolo>Mxrphase100>Holygrail>MP DBD

Any thoughts?

I would put the modualtions first (roto/phase/trem) then the BBOD then the CAF

a booster in front of a drive will give more distortion (driving the drive harder) and after it will just make the sound louder....

I´ve tried the phaser in front of the drives but after them is what to my ears sounds most pleasing. With distortion and the rotospjere it just sounds bigger and more phsycadelic as opposed to narrower and not so phsycadelic I guess.. man, it´s hard to describe tone! The tremolo however just got where it´s at by chance. I´ll try it before the drives.

I do remember trying the reverb after the delay and not quite hear any noticable difference. I´ll have another stab at it and let u know where it ends up. Do you listnen to something in particular when you put it after the delay?

The gt2 has been with me forever as a distortionunit. Works ok with a semicranked amp but when u turn the volume down in gigging or recording situations it just don´t produce a satisfiable sound IMO. Hopefully the BBOD will solve that, sounded amazing when i tried it at the musicstore! can´t wait to try it in a bandcontext..

actually you bring up a good point, and why there are no right or wrong order answers...
I like subtle effects - I like my modulations to blend into the distortion and I like the delays to melt into the reverb - so it mostly sounds like variations on the same tone....

BUT if you want a more obvious effect then your order makes perfect sense...

I might put one modulation in front and one after for variety and even use t hem together that way.....

The phaser tends to be stomped on when i´m in full fuzz mayhem. I really like it when it sounds like something is about to break
The rotospehere serve the more subtle smooth stuff. Does wonders with the CAF for a narly churning tone. Maybe not so subtle but way less in your face than the phaser.

I have never tried the GT as an ampsim but I have heard a recording of some bluesguy wich was very impressing tonewise. He just plugged the GT into the recording device. Maybe I´ll keep it around as a linebox if my amp dies on me on the road.

BBOD is quite different than the GT2 -- the sansamp can be VERY handy in various situations, and can function as an "amp simulator" if your amp dies, and you need to run direct into a PA system. i would keep it, just in case.

last time i saw The Fixx play, Jamie West-Oram was using a GT-2 as his main distortion sound, and it was pretty good sounding through a VERY clean amp.

BBOD can be kind of "picky" about what amps it likes, it seems to like Fenders like the Super Reverb and Twin Reverb. I have not tried it through a Marshall, but if the amp is set LOUD and CLEAN it should be fine. i have used it through a smaller amp at low volume and had success as well. you are lucky that you found one, they are pretty rare
