maybe it's just that my ears are still fried from monday night

but.....

the difference i heard between the new amber drive and the honeybee boiled down to this (from huckles excellent clips!)

the honeybee DOES sound more like a smaller combo amp cranked to ten.

the new amber drive to me sounds like a cranked up fender super or bassman.

i initially like the sound of the new drive better, based on those clips 8)

does not make me like the honeybee less.....

kudos to BJ for getting the "string sound" in there. i can hear the belltone from those fletcher/landau pickups (excellent choice, sir).....another winner is in the making.

i am so far behind the times, still discovering the BBOD and EGDM :D

but to my ears -- this new amber drive sounded to me what that '67 super reverb cranked up to 6 sounded like with a strat......bigger, clearer, longer, harder and tighter. it's two different flavors for sure!

I tried it against a number of other drives - the 'dirt' in ways reminds me of the lowest drive settings on the DRD...

The 'feel' of the pedal reminds me of the Little Green Wonder with the dynamics of the Honey Bee,,

Maybe its t he higher headroom and lower compression of the Amber that brings this comparison......

Maybe the ' Little Amber OD' ...

As this is to be an MP pedal it seemed important to see where it fit withe Sky Blue a nd LGW ......

and it fits in really well as the low driver and EQ/booster of course it stacks with these nicely...... 8)

the "Little Amber Drive" --- LAD......a good overdrive pedals for "the lads" 8)

hmmm.....this seems like a great pedal. and it's good that it is going to the MP line -- this could be a breakthru winner on the MP front.

Hey there, thanks for the compliments everyone...
i think this is a very good way of putting it, Slim.....
it sounds "bigger" to my ears too, whereas the honeybee gets close to the sound of a cranked small tweed amp (i never heard a supro though)
and yessss needless to say with the setup i had goin here today OF COURSE i stacked them :D oh boy....talkin bout having fun!
I'm just back from the local music store, where i choose the brightest possible setup: fender mexico maple neck strat into fender twin. awesome. very organic, made the amp sound $$$pensive just like the HB, put putting his own stamp on it: more open, more "string".
as a stacking platform, this pedal could offer good possibilities....stacking into HB is smoothing out things a lot, sometimes too much. stacking into RRB gives You such a DIRECT unforgiving tone. both is cool, but stacking into the LAD could achieve great results inbetween.
i think this will be my favorite flavor in the MP line, i just couldnt put my guitar down....too bad i dont have a gig or rehearsal this week, i would love to take it there.

Could you guys see this as an always on type of tone for a fairly consistent lower gain tone? I love the honeybee and its almost always on, but I often need the SYOD (or a timmy before the SYOD...) to stack behind the HB to tighten it up a bit and give it a more cut and gain. The cranked Bassman comparison is just what I was hoping to hear. Deep and 3D, but with a beautiful gain structure and a tight bottom end, with the treble on hand to sparkle when necessary.

I'll re-iterate the question. I am looking for an always on pedal for my small board- something I could stack into for higher gain, but that could do a full tight but thick and dense low gain overdrive. Is this it?

Sample settings of what I am thinking of is about... (HB into SYOD into SBEQ)
HBOD: unity volume, nature 9:30, drive 1:00
SYOD: unity volume, tone around 11-12, drive around 10-11
SBEQ: to taste- usually a touch of treble

From the clips I think I prefer the new MP over the Bee. But I would need to play them in order to solidify that opinion...

i think the new MP is for You....if You like the sound of the HB but want to tighten it up and give it more cut.
if i were provided with, say a fender twin for backline, this pedal would serve wonderfully as an "always on" lower gain basic sound and stack things into it.

Damn! knew there w as something I meant to do today ....... have to wait til next week now

Well one thing I noticed is that the higher input pickups you feed them the more the differences are apparant....

There is a place where they cross pretty close but these are two different pedals ...... and for me the essence of the HB is in the 'bloat' sound with the nature full left , and the Amber does not do this but it does other things better ....... its just another great/useful pedal that most of us will find a place for on our boards.
