For clarification, those are the same pedal except the Aquas were made by Bjorn and are very rare. I have had some experience with BJFE, just not much. Candy Apple Fuzz, Honey Bee, and Emerald Green. Just, over the year I've had to let them slide go for various financial reasons.

That is sort of what the original question was about, the MP vs the BJFE. If it is roughly the same circuit (or is the same) and the other is rare, than this is an example of no need for the BJF version.

Others can correct or amend my comments but these are the only equivalents:

MP LGW = BJF LGW
MP SWAW = BJF VCF
MP SBOD = BJF AMWM

Some BJF research pedals are used for learnings which result in MP pedals (example: BJF Folk Phaser was used for feedback which helped formulate the MP TOP -- which ended up being quite a bit different than the Folk Phaser).

I'd prescribe a DRD, HBOD, BBOD, or LGW for your situation. I definitely wouldn't dump the Ernie. I had the Top Fuel, and it's the only Skreddy I didn't bond with. Sounds like a distortion or overdrive might be a good place to start.

This is correct. If you get any of these MP models, there is absolutely no need to pursue a BJF version. They are identical. The other MP models are new and completely original circuits which BJ came up with specifically for that line, and are different from BJF pedals. The only thing they all have in common at that point is the designer.

Yes, I am with you BTBAM.....the Mad Professor series are great pedals, and I hope that many of the BJFe pedals will make it into the MP series. I have used the MP LGW, and SWAW, and the TOP, and all of them have been just as good as my BJF pedals.

but as another poster suggested, there are many BJF pedals that have not made it to the MP line, and you may want to look into the Dyna Red. it's my favorite distortion pedal ever. from any builder. it's a very dynamic and gainy distortion that grows on me more and more as i learn how to use it. absolutely a total WINNER. the MP line has the Mighty Red, but it is not quite the same as the dyna red, from what i understand.......i would love to try one side by side with my dyna red, and see which one i liked better.....

BJF DRD -- designed, hand-tuned, and handmade by BJ, excellent distortion. One of the best ever, actually. Seems to favor humbuckers, but also works well with single coils.

MP MRD -- designed by BJ, handmade by others in Finland, great high-gain 80's distortion. Seems to favor single coils, but also works well with humbuckers.

In short, I tend to recommend DRD for those who play chiefly with humbuckers, and MRD for those who play chiefly with single coils.

hmmmm......i would really like to try to MRD now. i like my DRD a lot with single coils tho.....i wonder if i would like MRD better? this intrigues me.....i would like to use as many MP series pedals as i can, but there's something special about having a BJ original on the board too....

Yes, the DRD is great with single coils, as the MRD will also work with humbuckers. I don't think that these are exclusive things as much as I think that one does tend to favor the other overall.

I'd try the MRD. It's a great pedal! You don't necessarily have to have one or the other. Keep both if you can ... of course I know all about having to choose.

Funny enuff- I actually like the MP Fire Red Fuzz as much if not more than any of the BJFE fuzzes. That's an example of one where the really isn't a BJFE equivalent.
