Sky Blue Overdrive sound problems?

Postby BTBAM » Wed Jan 07, 2009 12:17 am

So...I'm playing a Hagstrom Super Swede (coil tap capable) into a Mesa Lonestar. It is a pretty well rounded EQ on the amp, with the treble a tid higher than the others. I was comparing the pedal to my mosferatu (just got the SBOD in) and the pedal sounded very muffled. The high end seemed to not exist. The Z and Texture knobs didn't do much to help the tone at all. My chain to the pedal waas guitar->wah probe->octron->pulp mill compressor->fuzz factory->mosferatu->SBOD. I played both with the humbuckers in all 3 positions and in the coil tapped setting with all three positions.

Does this seem like an issue others have had or does anyone know what might be wrong?

I would recommend going guitar > sbod > amp and seeing what it sounds like that way. Change the battery, make sure everything is connected properly, etc. If it still sounds muffled, then it's broken probably. It should not sound muffled.

I agree with guitar > sbod, I'm pretty sure one of the controls on the SBOD is designed to work directly with your pickups, so late in chain takes away from that added tone control.

I haven't yet tried it guitar -> amp, however where it is in my chain is where it needs to be because of my board layout. So, if it does this whole tonal thing were having a few TB pedals in front of it not turned on taking away all high end too it, then I guess I should just get rid of it anyways.

I think it might have been 2 things:

1) the gain on the SBOD is way more than the mosferatu (and a little different)
2) I had the amp at a lower volume to be able to hear tell the actual drive sound of the pedal.

I tried it again today.

Shoot out, 2 guitars, in and out of pedal line, and I think the sound I heard is not there. I still think the mosferatu has more high end, but the SBOD seems to sparkle more. The gain is thicker on the SBOD, so...now I just need to figure out what I want.

I found that the noise floor of the Mosferatu is high also.It seams to pick up everything (radio, cell phones, hiss, buzz ect,)The MP SBOD does take some time to dial in but the rewards are worth it.
