Who here uses an EGDM on a regular basis?

Postby justonwo » Tue Jan 06, 2009 5:20 pm

Maybe I'm off base on this one, but it's one of the BJFE pedals that doesn't seem to get much attention/respect. Who makes regular use of this pedal? What is your setup and application?
Much smaller collection than the days of yore . . .

its actually my go-to distortion. I play more modern indie rock type stuff so that voxy flavor kinda suits me better than, say, the DRD. In fact, it might actually get more use than any of my other drives, ODs included (for now, the HBDE is on the way, heh).

I do get the same sense though that its a little bit underrated, theres almost always a couple for sale on TGP. I dunno-- so many people who play the same kinda style I do already own a Vox amp, its the trendy thing to do don'tcha know

I love it through, sounds so good through my Fender
My BJFE- Some special ones. Some standard ones. I love them all just the same.

i sold mine, but only because i had to, due to financial problems. and i was DYING to get a BBOD...which i did - but  for a LOT of money

70% of my gigs are blues/fusion and i was using the DRD and HB more often.

but it was SOOOO beautiful sounding thru my cowtipper and fender blues deluxe, and it absolutely kicked a** with a Budda amp i was using for a while.
however i rarely used it for leads. in that territory DRD and HB felt more comfortable for my playing style. but i used it A LOT for rhythm, from beatles-type sounds to americana a la doug pettibone. i always found that it is a clear, very open sounding pedal, even at high gain settings, especially compared to my DRD. funny because it is described as a "compressed" sound.
all i can say is i miss it....probably after the SWF i regret selling that one the most!!!! in 2007 i played almost all the rhythm tracks on an entire CD thru it. everytime i listen to that CD, i'm like: damn! it was a mistake to let that one go.

It's probably my most used distortion. I just like the basic flavor of it and it works great for rhythm and solos. Sounds great with all my equipment, but especially awesome witha tele and the Victoria. The internal trim pot helps you do some adjusting in case it doesn't mess with your rig quite right.

I agree though, the EGDM doesn't quite get it's due. Neither does the Baby Blue.

I love the EGDM so much, I've bought it three times! I've had to sell my previous two on occasions where I needed to sacrifice hot items to get money for things that were coming up fast.

I've been used all of my EGDM's with my TopHat Club Royale which is inspired by an AC30 and an 18 watt Marshall, and the EGDM does beautifully with it. I have alust filled desire to get a 6G6-B bassman repro (Gomez Amps El Sonido) and try the EGDM through that. It's my #1 dirt box...boost, medium drive, or full on distortion

its kind of like Vox amps --- people love them or hate them, and the ones that do use them, use them most of the time......

There's a 1965 AC30 --clean-- at Acme. We should go A/B it with the EGDM! :)

i have owned the EGDM twice, and didn't bond with it, but i liked it a lot. i have owned a few Ac-30s over the years, and love those....

i am gonna try to honey bee next, maybe when newarkwilder mike gets his honeybee deluxe, maybe i will take his honeybee off his hands.

haven't ever heard a BJF pedal that i didn't like yet, though 8)

I did not bond with the EGDM either slim. I love the Honey bee though it is my go to OD. I use a 3 tier stack all set low gain on my main gig rig which is a Cowtipper 45. A tim pedal for low gain OD, then the regular HB into that for med, and then a MKIII ProAnalog fuzz into that for leads and I use a baby pink booster anywhere in between and by itself sometimes for clean chording. Then I have an ultra vibe and phaser, wah, PGC sustainer, etc. I put a Klon at the end of it all as a always on clean boost as there are too many pedals. I use a tube tape echo for delay on this rig as I need the extra headroom it has over traditional tape echoes with my pedals crankin a fat clean sound. And man is it ever fat. It should have diabetes.

I am not a big fan of VOX amps, always been a fender guy so I am sure the EGDM is doing what it is supposed to do.
