Wow, what crazy holidaze in the Florida Keys. We just got finished with 2 weeks straight of shows.
I was able to REALLY test the model "R", and it was amazing. VERY different than the Dyna Red. In fact, it allowed me to set the Dyna Red to a low gain setting, and THAT blew me away. I was able to use Model "R" as a very crunchy and heavy distortion, and the Dyna Red and my more low-medium gain sound. The "R" sounded GREAT -- very controllable, and with the resonance knob set about 1:30-2 p.m., I was easily able to get nice harmonic feedback at the end of notes, like a cranked up amp!!!!
SBEQ did a great job as usual, nothing new to report. It was on all the time!
Tiny Orange Phaser.....much more tweaking with this one. I had a soundman who was ALL UP IN MY business all week, and actually had the audacity to criticize my effects pedal settings. He said I was using TOO MUCH PHASE. I thought he was using TOO MUCH COCAINE, but whatever. Anyhow. I tweaked the TOP a lot, and experimented with the settings on the right side of the mix knob, and tweaked the resonance further down than usual. I ended up getting some nice shimmery sounds that seemed to pacify "Mr Soundman", and also had enough phase to keep me happy.
Snow White Auto Wah -- FAT, FUNKY, and DELICIOUS as usual. I am still learning to tweak this in, but basically, once you get it set right for your guitar and pickups, you use your volume knob to get just the right sweep going. It is SO NICE not to be tied down to a wah pedal, and have to stand there rocking it back and forth for an entire song. Still in love with that one.......
MP Deep Blue Delay - I was lent one of these for a few weeks, and I like it a LOT........very analog and warm sounding. I had it set to about a 450 ms delay, with 2-3 repeats, very far back in the mix, just enough so I don't sound too "dry". Liked it a LOT and hate to send it back
BJF Snow White Fuzz........newest addition to my board, and probably the pedal I am MOST happy with tone-wise. Remember Richie Blackmore in the early mid 70s Deep Purple? The Snow White fuzz is THAT SOUND.......run a strat into it, and a loud clean amp, and you have THAT SOUND, a big, rich, deep fuzz with a lot of lower mids and a very smooth character. I think it's my favorite fuzz pedal EVER. And I was always a HUGE Deep Purple fan, so this sound was instantly recognizable to me....it has immediately become my "go-to" lead guitar sound.
BJF Dyna Red -- I kept going back and forth between loving it and being mystified by it. Dyna Red sounds GREAT when it is LOUD.......but at many gigs, I am severely limited by crappy backline amps and soundmen who have their heads up their butts. Sometimes at LOW volumes, the Dyna Red sounded over-compressed and sort of small. Hmmmm.........but I learned one of the secrets of this pedal. Set it to low gain, and all of a sudden it becomes more alive, more dynamic, and less compressed. I managed to get a really stringy, singing overdrive like sound from it, and it made me fall in love all over again. Plus this pedal into a good marshall head and 4x12 cab, and STAND BACK! I was really surprised how nice and stringy the Dyna Red sounded at low gain..........
I am letting go of my Candy Apple Fuzz and my MP Little Green Wonder, they are in the sales forum for a few days before I list them at the other online fora. It makes me a bit sick to my stomach to let go of them, but they got the least use out of all my pedals, and economic reasons force their sale. Damn, I am gonna sell my Soldano too, so it's not just pedals I am letting go of...sigh.......but......I feel I can do my gigs quite well with the pedals listed above. And when I am recording, I'll just call NewarkWilder Mike and get him to bring his pedals over
that's it for me.....hope you all had great holidays!
