I love low-gain sounds. It is quite a skill to get that nice dynamic low-gain balance. One of the issues with low-gain stuff, for me at least, is finding a pedal that does not change the tone of the amp. Everything adds some form of "color". I don't mind if the pedal adds color (that can be a lot of fun) but it would be nice to have a 100% pure "neutral" position as a starting point at least. Interesting topic low-gain pedals...
Hi,
I made some final tweaks this morning as two of the test guys asked for more 'string-sound'
And so I worked with that on the reference amplifier for a while.
Hm, anyway I played it with a Les Paul, a yellow Tele, a strat through MP101 with MP Red Fang cabinett and custom -audio side speakers, a late 60's Pro Reverb with Utah Speakers and a 60's VOX AC-30TB with original speakers.
The point of this was to see if the proto could work with all these combinations and yes this also on both loud and conversationlevels.
At lunch I felt I was content with this but had lost the sense of sound as can happen after concentration so I made some other work while I asked another test guy to come and try all guitars and all amps and also the CS-40 until he had no ears either
He asked for more distortion - to which I only had to reply that this is a low gain OD and meant for just that and if more gain would be needed a booster or compressor ahead could be used.
I'll have the 'string guys' test it tomorrow while I'll do some drilling and assembly;)
Ah, so yes I did try this with seemingly colourless.........maybe a whiter shade of pale?
Low gain it is the test crew say that they can hear other colours of some of my other models but which models tend to drift a bit with the guys having different opinions.
Let's say this proto has a tight bottom that goes with all the above combinations and a shall we say 'guitar treble can be controlled by one knob.
Ithough what you written above and listened to the string guys and the other guys and tuned to something I could use- actually I enjoyed playing some old rock riffs through it
This is useful to first get a feel for the dynamics and then listen to eq.
This is to be an MP model and that really required NO FANCY PARTS THAT ARE LIMITED IN AVAILABILTY OR REQUIRE EXTENSIVE TUNING, please..........
Anyway, it'll take some time to launch this and in the meantime a tourbox might could be organized.
Have fun
BJ
