Hi everybody,

Recently I put my Germino Club 40 up for sale and as an after thought, I mentioned a few "wish list" amps that I would potentially trade for. Needless to say, I thought it was a long shot at best. Low and behold, I got a trade offer for the Mad Professor CS-40. WOW! It never hurts to try.

It goes without saying that this is an amp I wasn't sure if I would ever be able to own / justify owning, but the trade went a long way. I feel very fortunate to have a chance to play through this amp and quite frankly, I don't deserve something this nice. Marc Ford should have this! Knowing what a gear nut he is, I'm seriously thinking of taking it to his next gig in STL to see if he wants to try it out.

Anyway, I've had it about a week and I am still just learning what it is capable of. I'll post a thorough review as soon as I feel competent. Until then, here's a pic!

As I've told you, congrats on obtaining the unobtainable. I'd love so much to be able to have one of these amps. I can't give you any detailed information about settings or anything, but can tell you that I got to jam on one quite a bit a little over a year ago. It was absolutely mind-blowing ... truly the best, most versatile amp I've ever played. Unreal. Man ... I wish I could have one ... I'd take it to every gig without fail. It is truly my dream amp.

As for speaker/cab combos, I believe BJ himself has said that he favors a 2x12 closed back cab with an Eminence Red Fang and Eminence Private Jack combination ... or a 4x12 closed back with two of each in criss-cross formation.

Thanks Doc! I'm with you...when I find another band, this rig will be going with me. I'm a believer in using the gear as fully as possible.

The cab is an MP cab with the Red Fang / Private Jack combo. I actually like the cab quite a bit. I've never had a closed back cab, but it sounds great. I think it would sound even better in a band context in terms of cutting through.

Thanks Slim! I will definitely provide a thorough review (to the best of my ability). This amp is a whole new ball of wax for me -- with the combination of the focus knob, the two distinct inputs (normal/abnormal) and the tube/fet selector -- it's like having at least 12 distinct options / tone platforms / amps. Then when you layer on the tone balance control (something akin to a "Nature" control) and the presence control and the regular eq, the options are ridiculous (and somewhat overwhelming, especially at first). And then the amp accepts a wide variety of tubes, so theoretically, there's even more flexibility / tone shaping available.

THIS sounds VERY interesting

i am Mr. GREEN with envy

but i am glad that YOU got that amp......and that it is in "the family".....

i don't know much about the amp circuitry yet, as i have been so focused upon the pedals. i am quite intrigued to see what BJ has come up with as far an amp circuits. NATURE KNOB on an amp? sounds VERY VERY interesting.....i wonder if he has made an amp that would make me want to NOT use my distortion/overdrive/fuzz pedals? hmmm.........

Yes, and we haven't even gotten to the possibilities that arise from using the MP CS-40 as a pedal platform. When you factor in all the things the amp does, combined with how it takes pedals ... it's just unbelievable.
