hey hey hey......i'm back from my road gigs.

lots of cool pics, i will post some to this thread soon.

i got to play and jam with bob marley's old guitar player, and that was a very beautiful thing.

i just set my Soldano amp to the CLEAN channel, nice, full, and decently loud.

my tone, my playing, and my vibe was THE BEST it has been in many years.

first night, it was almost all LGW.....i used it for most of the night.

second and third night was all DRD.....

the tiny orange phaser made my boss SMILE when we played some funky earth wind & fire stuff, and the KC & Sunshine band 70s funk tunes. it sounded GREAT.

snow white auto wah is all that i expected and MORe...it takes some time to learn to dial it in, and you have to be VERY conscious of your guitar's volume knob.

honestly.....friday and saturday night was the BEST TONE i have ever had in my entire 39 years of guitar playing.

i was a bit scared when i let go of all my old pedals to go BJF......but it was the best move i have ever made tone-wise.

damn, i am EXHAUSTED. but thank you bjorn, thank you harri, thank you donner, and thank you everyone.

i will try to stick all my comments, photos, reports, etc on THIS thread, so as not to clutter the forum. i have a LOT of input to provide, but i don't want to have too many threads going at once, so i will stick to this thread....

much love and happiness to all the BJF faithful out there.....pics later......i toook a LOT of them, in one fo the most beautiful locations on EARTH....you'll see! 8)

when did you pick up the TOP? I didn't see it earlier... is it worth the money? I am looking for a phaser, but I have a hard time justifying the price tag when I know I'll barely ever use it. Maybe once a month, tops. And I play out between 15-20 times per month.

the TOP came to me from NewarkWilder -- he gave it to me on loan, and i gave him my skreddy fuzz on loan in exchange......and since i will be recording over on his side of the state for my new album, i'm probably gonna have him come by the studio with all his toys, and make some noise......

if you like phasers, the TOP will make you smile.....LOTS of interesting variations with that one....not your usual phase 90 type phase, althought it can get close to that sound.

i am still learning it, but i think i just about have my fave settings down. i'm gonna have to mark my settings in "sharpie" on both the TOP and the SWAW......

tone report from the last week.

LGW -- simply amazing at stage volume. it truly IS the tube screamer that even a tube screamer HATER would like.

and if you LIKE tubescreamers.....you would LOVE this.

I have found a setting that sounds almost EXACTLY like my vintage TS-808.

But I don't use that setting -- I have found much better ones lurking inside this little green wonder.....

DRD -- continues to amaze me. When I have my guitar volume ALL THE WAY up, sometimes it almost gets a bit too dirty and compressed for chord work and rhythm -- but for solos....wow.....gainy, complex midrange with sweetness. I could easily do a gig with just the DRD as my ONLY dirtbox

Candy Apple Fuzz continues to sound great too, and Bjorn taught me a little "trick" to dial in my "octavia" sound -- play a D7 chord down on the first/second fret, tune nature knob until it sounds NASTY......and you are at "the spot"

Of course, I am haunted by the Snow White fuzz now.......I can totally hear that pedal on my board, as a solo "voice" -- I consider my dirt pedals as "voices", and each one of them is like a different singer to me.

LGW is a sweet, soulful blues singer

DRD is like AXL ROSE rock singer (on a GOOD night)

CAF is like that genius vocalist who can SING HIS A$$ off.....but is a little crazy, and you never know what he's gonna do 8) 8) 8)

Snow White Fuzz to me sounds like a beautiful soulful singer, a female singer like Billie Holiday, deep rich and thick......

SEA BLUE EQ.........what can I say? It is the perfect pedal to have at the end of your pedal chain.

Front of House engineer (soundman) not paying attention to your solo spots? No problem.......just set the SBEQ to boost your volume AND a little treble boost, and you will cut through the mix.

I have not yet tried another Bjorn suggestion -- which is to CUT both the treble and bass, and then CRANK the volume to use it as MID boost.....hmmmmm......?????

ok....enough from me. 8)

Thanks, Bobby D!

Thank you Doc.....I enjoy this forum, because it seems that most of the members are here in the quest for tone, and not to swing their big "gear penis" around.....

I spoke with several cool people in "the biz" today, including Bjorn. I have to say -- I am starting to have the BEST guitar sound of my entire life. And this is from a guy who has had over 1,000 guitars, at least 1,000 pedals, and a few hundred amps 8)

I also had the pleasure of a very long and wonderful conversation with Mike Soldano today, because I have been SO PLEASED with my amp, and the fact that both Mike and Bill at Soldano have supported me 100%, even though I bought my amp USED......Mike reminds me of Bjorn, he has the same kind of "joy" in the gear and tone and music.....it was a great day!

honestly -- I really only need ONE MORE pedal......the Deep Blue Delay......and maybe jfromels "Lush" chorus -- I have been a fan of the Dimension C since that thing came out, and I got to see NewarkWilders "Lush" pedal during our pedalparty....drool......

More gigs next week! I'm going to spend a couple of days woodshedding with Tomo Fujita's DVD, and see if I can "step my game up" a little guitar-wise......since my tone is getting so happening, I want my playing to catch up!

Yep great stories Bobby!

And, you've got people talking a bit more around here, which is good - sometimes it can be a little too quiet.
But, then again, quiet probably helps keep this place off the radar of the big gear penis swingers!

Cheers

thanks for the comments :-)

my avatar is indeed ME......i was working for RCA at the time, and was in the NYC offices. I pulled the head off the RCA/Victor dog, and it fit on my head, so i got one of the other staffers there to snap the pic.

problem was -- i almost wasn't able to get the dog head BACK OFF my head.

could have been a bad situation.

maybe i should get the head back, and do the buckethead thing?

naw.......i'll just be bobby d
