that's VERY fair....but my wife-to-be has taken my credit cards away temporarily, since i have spent so much in the last month, even after selling off ALL my other pedals....but she HEARS the difference.

which is why she is my wife-to-be 8)

you are entirely CORRECT....she really got into it when i opened the pedals, and she saw Eva's artwork, and has been listening to me speak with Bjorn on the phone, and she can hear the difference between the various pedals and their uses.

she has been working at one of the top live music nightclubs in our area for nearly 9 years, and has heard tHOUSANDS of bands.....so she has good EARS.

and she picked ME out of all those other guys with strats and pedal and amps and stage attitude

i am a lucky man....very, very lucky....

So I've been neck-deep in election stuff for the past few days and haven't really been able to chime in... hell besides the pedal party w/ Bobby D I've barely been able to get any playing in. Now that things are settling down though lemme give some thoughts :D

First off, Bobby D rules!! I'm glad to be able to play with this stuff myself but it was really great being able to hear them put through their paces by such an incredible player. I don't think anybody can argue Bobby can freakin' shred!

I think we'd both agree there were 2 big surprises of the evening-- the SYOD pretty much blew us away when I don't think either of us thought that'd be the one we'd really be talking about at the end of the night. The other surprise which is a little harder to say but I'll just come out and be honest with it, we tried the CliffHanger first because we expected it to be the big winner of the night, and while it was an awesome pedal we were a little underwhelmed. I think I personally had anticipated that one the most and while it rocked the house, no doubt about it, it wasn't the big star of the show I expected it to be.

Love the MH and the SWF, the more I play with the SWF it really strikes me just how thick, powerful and yes... elegant, it really is. Such a strong tight low-end, its great.

Another thing to note that was a little bit refreshing... Between Bobby and my BJFE collections we got to compare the custom shops to the production models pretty carefully and came out feeling like the production models really didn't feel like "2nd tier" or inferior in any way, really. The CS models are awesome and different but it was nice coming out of it being happy with what I have and not feeling the absolute need to pick up a CS pedal just to have one, like it would be superior just on the basis of being more expensive and less readily available. Its fantastic that Bjorn is making these different pedals and trying different experiments, but it reinforced that the ones that are in production are in production for a reason.

I love these pedals--but having my EGDM come back to me after being gone for a while may actually be the nicest bit of it all in the end. It re-affirmed my love for that pedal, not that it was ever in doubt, but I dare to say the EGDM is actually relatively underrated compared to some others in the BJFE lineup.

Anyhow, I'll spend a little more time with it and then pass the box along to its next stop!! Thanks to everyone, especially Donner for allowing me to be a part of this!

-Mike
My BJFE- Some special ones. Some standard ones. I love them all just the same.

excellent insights Mike, and very true about the Customshoppers just being other options....

the CS is a way to search out new tones that fit in with the old ones and may someday join the standard line...

and yup the EGDM has always sort of stood in the back of the standards - I think it takes a little more time to really feel what it does,,, and its also easier to misuse with the nonstandard controls...

but I doubt there will ever be a better meat and potatoes rock drive than the DRD or a touch sensitive light blues drive setting than the BBOD on 10 oclock 8) the customshop stuff are extra flavors, not replacements... 8)

I used my DRD about 75% of the time at all my gigs this weekend, and it performed SO WELL.....lower the guitar volume, and it cleans up to a nice overdriven rhythm sound.....crank up the volume and it GETS BIGGER AND FATTER.......

EDIT -- I want to address what Mike said above -- we had a GREAT time, he did GREAT camera work on those demos, and it's true.....I think we both had expectations about the Cliffhanger, and when it was different than we thought it would be, it kinda threw us for a loop. HOWEVER -- thru a loud amp and a REAL stage vloume, that thing might sound INCREDIBLE.....when the tourbox has finished making the rounds, how about sending that one BACK to ME and let me use it as some gigs for some more accurate feedback on that one...hmmmm???

And what he said about the custom shop vs. regular production pedals IS ENTIRELY TRUE -- many of us get caught up in wanting the RAREST, the MOST EXPENSIVE, and the ones that you can "corksniff" about.

But like I said above, I will put my Dyna Red against ANY PEDAL ON EARTH and I don't think there's a better distortion pedal made. There are plenty of other great ones....but....for ME.....the DRD is a TOTAL WINNER, and this is evident by the fact that Bjorn himself uses this pedal 8)

I am very happy that I lucked into getting #024.....it has a permanent home.....and i will leave it in my will to a deserving guitarist 8)
