Best stackers with Model R

Postby roby » Fri Jul 25, 2008 8:32 pm

Hi folks. I have a Model R and am looking to pick up another BJF drive pedal. My main considerations are the EGDM and the HBOD. Do any of you have experience stacking these, and if so, which one stacks better? Thanks for any help!

Both pedals are super great. I think the HB is pretty much awesome at stacking with anything. The cool thing about the EGDM is that with the internal set it and forget it dial, you could dial in a sweet spot for your R, EGDM, and amp. If you really love the tone you are getting with the Model R, I would say that you should go with the HB because it adds to the tone of a pedal in a stack, almost like if there was an added awesomeness button on the Model R. A stack with the EGDM would still be a great stack, but I feel like it would sound more like a fusion of the EGDM and the Model R as opposed to an enhanced Model R that you'd get from a HB R stack. All of my pedals are on a moving truck right now, so this is me going from my memories of experiences stacking with the HB and the EGDM.

Thanks nichcope. If anything I'd like to add some brightness to the R. It's funny - the R sounds great through my Dr. Z Mazerati at full bore volume. But that's much too loud for most circumstances. To my ears, it's a somewhat dark amp, even though it has EL84s. At lower volumes the R into the Maz doesn't sound that great, it's a little too dark. I like the clips of both the HBOD and EGDM, but was also wondering which might stack better to decide on which one to go with next (as if I'm not going to buy both eventually!). It sounds like the EGDM might be the ticket.

Definitely, you should be able to dial in a great treble sound with the internal trimmer on the EGDM!

oh perfect......

there is an interesting relation between the R and the HB.... this is one of my most favorite stacks ----- the pushing of the R into the HB brightens both up and sounds better than either by itself - the R is often a bit dark in some rigs......

an interesting thing I also just found out is the pushing the Purple Humper into the HB is amazing, really guts it up and has the same brightening effect ....its kind of like some small amps that are a bit boring until you run something into them that pisses them off a bit and wakes it all up
