Firstly, I posted the link to the TGP thinking that maybe some people would be interested in what Nick at NOC3 suggested and then on the other thread at TGP I feel most pleased that it is gone while I have no idea why it is gone.

Ah, maybe now and then things need to be vented- even if it leads to no particurlar good.

Hey Bj...well the gearpage vent,was totally uncalled for........that is the reason i posted 4-5 times on the thread and email the gearpage guys to delete this thread!!! Good to see it gone.....carry on in making great pedals&amps..!!!!

Well now that we have BJ's blessing, anyone else interested in building a folk fuzz?

Well we could do a sort of group build of Folk Fuzzes .... BJ has said this is a very versatile circuit and can vary wildly depending on parts choices ..... so i guess it wouldnt really interfere with even BJs Customchop Folk Fuzz builds as that is his personal parts choices and handtweeking .........


And I actually think the TGP 'price whiner' thread was at least useful, from the poll results most people dont know why things are the way they are, we have to remember that there is a constant turnover on the interwebz and just because we explained things clearly six months ago doesnt mean its settled forever....... and an honest complaint is a great opportunity to change minds with a clear honest debate...... BJ and I are basically limited to 'correcting inacurate information' in TGP threads .... thats why I dont jump in most of the BJF threads the way I used to, Im not allowed anymore and Im very glad to see all of you who take the time to .... I would simply encourage you to redirect inaccurate posters towards the truth rather than getting in a pissing match......

So, I'm actually the guy (jucas) over there that checked the prices and grabbed the layout from nick, but as thiscalltoarms posted, nobody's going to put down the money for all of them, and very few people are going to pay 20 bucks for a PCB a month from now. I'd assumed that Bjorn posting the link meant it was alright with him as long as the project was mostly a DIY thing (ie, you have a pcb, but gotta source some parts, and put it together), so thankfully I wasn't too far off.

But, with or without a PCB, I'm going to build and tweak one or two of the folk fuzzes after I'm home from working for the summer. Thiscalltoarms, had you had some thoughts on somehow doing a "group project" over here, or is that mostly trying to rally a few people to grab some PCB's? I think that if a couple people put 'em together circulating the results might be interesting, especially if someone doing it had a "real" folk fuzz to compare with (or at least, soundclips and comparing notes). That might be really boring if they end up too similar, but who knows... It could go either way, but it looks like it should be a straighforward enough circuit that a little tweaking and some personal touches would be possible. Like Donner mentioned, Bjorn figures that the circuit will be forgiving to part substitutions, so it could be fun.

One nice thing about running the Customshop is I get to hear all the pedals before they go to thier owners and what has amazed me is the variation of BJs Folk builds ~ each 'batch' has a unique voice , and this is on purpose and defined by the trannies and the tweeking - of course BJ has the experience to draw the best out of each batch ........... but there is no 'official' Folk Fuzz sound to compare it to.......... either you enjoy the sound or you dont.....

Hmmm... I didn't know Bjorn's had that much variation too. I like the idea of a pedal where each one is unique.

And, yeah, I was definately going to try and tweak one of my builds t'wards the low end! There'll definately be a thread here when things are done.

Regarding the price rant on TGP, when I last checked it was going OK, and I was just about to add another post regarding
the $400 prices of some Skreddy pedals which only cost $200 new (OK they're discontinued). Sort of shows that the BJF's are a
pretty good second hand buy, given their higher initial price? I think some people were realising that the prices weren't that high,
unless it had spiralled out of control after my last visit.

I'd definitely be interested in a Folk Fuzz build, but I would need to join in with a PCB order.
I can solder pretty well, but fall well short of being able to convert a schematic to a board layout.

Well, my original thought was to put together a BYOC style DIY kit with all the necessary components because that seemed a bit easier. on the whole, but then all of our attempts would lack the variation of seperate sourcing of parts etc.

I guess I'm open to either way, but I definitely can't pull this off unless we do the PCBs so thats really what I want to push for. I think I'm going to compile a list of people who say they want a Folk Fuzz PCB, and then once I have a decent size list I'll take it to a PCB house. Perhaps we could pre-sell some of the PCBs to cover some of initial costs of ordering them, and I can front some money, but I don't have a particularly large stock pile of the green stuff. Just sold a speaker cab, so I can take some of that green and invest it in PCBs. but again, it'd suck to be stuck with say, 15 PCBs at $20 a pop, so I think preselling the PCBs is necessary.

Well, if you get some interest for a 20 PCB run, let me know... I'm in for 2-3. I'd pitch in to keep the total that one person's gotta pay up front in to a minimum. If we end up with some extra boards we just split the losses and the leftovers?
