Hi Bjorn,
I'm a big fan of your pedals- I'm very happy to own the HB and PGC.
Some questions for ya':
Are you familiar with the old Univox Super Fuzz? Does the CAF bear any relation to it other than that they both can do octaving fuzz? If not, would you consider building your take on a SuperFuzz (maybe as a custom shop model)? Finally, is the Green Apple Fuzz more octave-ish than the CAF?
Thanks,
db

Has anyone heard both the Candy Apple Fuzz and the Univox Super Fuzz that might care to comment as to how the two compare?
Bjorn? Anyone?

That's a good question. I've never heard the Univox, so I can't say. I'm sure BJ or Donner will chime in at some point, as I'd be shocked if they weren't familiar.

Hi,

Do you mean this one?

http://filters.muziq.be/model/univox/superfuzz

Actually, the Shin Ei Companion, Fuzz/Wha/Siren, which is the same fuzz circuit, just different transistors, was the first fuzz I ever encountered and the words of Tom Wheeler " There may be a little more between you and Jimi Page than a fuzzpedal" were painfully obvious as in how do you even begin to make the sound of distorted amplifiers through such a beast? Well, maybe if you're Jimi Page ;)
That is a memory that haunts me, and yes CAF is partly made to capture this inplayability

Hm, I haven't done any direct comparision, but let's say you can get similar sounds, close enough anyway apart from midnotch, which isn't featured on CAF.

Fuzzes that inspired the CAF, soundwise were
Maestro Super Fuzz
Gibson FZ-1A
Fox Tonemachine
Shin Ei Companion
Melos Square Wave
Marshall Supafuzz

Hm, what am I forgetting?

CAF won't sound exactly like any of them, but'd be my version of less playable fuzz ;)

Have fun
BJ

I just got a vintage Univox Super Fuzz from Analoghog in trade and I can say that it doesn't sound much like the CAF, in my opinion. The Super Fuzz is brighter and more buzzy.

Yeah I just got BeeBaa copy that is also based on this circuit and while I can see the family resembalence I would never confuse them... they share that naked aggression in the hair - reminds me of Medusas snake hair waving and spitting 8)

Donnner, did you buy the Barge Concepts Bee-Baa clone or was it made by someone else?
