MP CS40 question

Hi Bjorn,

In reading about the MP CS40, it sounds like in designing the amp, you have thought through every conceivable thing. I would be curious to know why reverb wasn't include? It seems like many great amps are reverb-less. Why is that?

Also, what type of speaker cab would you recommend?

The idea with CS-40 was to put control in the hands of the musician.......I could think of many things, but really would just have to define and draw the line.........

Well reverb was not added since there partly is a problem to find truely nice sounding tanks, while also because an add on reverb/vibrato was planned , while on a backburner now and again there's a problem finding truely good tanks.
Also I often find a short delay more useful..........
I'll do a more extended research on reverb effects and because reverb was not added there is a loop at the back of the amp and that accepts two levels, while reverb can also be added like this that I have seen in one set up where signal is taken from the speakeroutput and didvided down so side speakers with reverb effect can be amplified only through external side speakers- this gives a raw core of acustic sound while reverb appears more ambient.
Arguably reverb can be used in large dozes in certain musicstyles and then reverb can be added and choosen for specific qualities to go either in front of the amp or in the loop.

The MP CS-40 is an amp built on a controlled edge also and an internal reverb would have but some more stringent variables to stability- this is one other reason. It would work but project would have been delayed.

A funny thing about the CS-40 is that I interviewed about twenty CS-40 owners on gear used in conjunction with CS-40 as in guitars, effects, speakers and also settings of the amp and not two used the same in either respect but all claimed they had dialed their sound.

At the time of design there was no readly available speaker option. I went to Frankfurtshow to listen to Eminence speakers and had at my disposal both Hempcones and various Celestion speakers while the one Jensen speaker I would have liked is no longer in production and was outof production even then- even so it was a modern speaker and there were many more speakers I tried and continiously gather information on through feedback from CS-40 owners and what sounds they get with different types of speakers.

The one combination I personally like and would preferably see in the MP 4x12 cabinett is a cross pattern of two Eminence Red Fangs and two Eminence Private Jacks and to my ear then Red Fangs have a treble and a low mid that makes the hair on my under arms stand on end and the Private Jacks have a punchy upper mid and together they produce a balanced sound that sounds electric guitar but that does not leave any register over represented but I instead find that this combination in the MP cabinett that is smaller than a regular 4x12 and closed back gives a response that makes it easy to dial the CS-40 for a wide variety of sounds.

I know other CS-40 owners swear by their favourite speaker combinations, but this is the ne I will recommend and that also for the MP101 amplifier.

Thanks so much for your response Bjorn! I really appreciate the time and thoughtfulness that goes into your posts.

I recently traded my Germino for a MP CS40 (w/ cash from me). I can't wait! I feel very lucky to have had a chance to make the trade. I honestly figured I'd probably never have the chance to play through one.
