BJFE / BearFoot fx Guitar Effects Community

I recently did a few mods to a CE2 and it sounds terrific on it's own, but... now it's making the pedal before it (no matter which pedal or what kind of power supply), "pop" when switched on or off.

I was thinking it might be a ground problem, but I'm not sure how to solve it. Any ideas?

what did you change? and does it happen with every pedal in the front?

The problem started (as far as I can tell) after I put in a .047 capacitor (per Monte Mods) - I'm going to put the old capacitor back in and see if the problem goes away. It made my BJFE pedals (no buffer) and my Cornish pedals pop, except when I placed it at the very end of my chain with a Cornish NB3 in front of it. Not the ideal place for a chorus, but only place where it didn't create a pop. Any thoughts?

Got this tip from another forum member on TGP -

"The most common cause for switch pops is DC voltage leaking into the signal. You need to find out where that happens (it doesn't have to be in the pedal that pops - it can just as easily be in a neighbouring pedal). In this case, I'd obviously start with the CE-2, since it's the last one to change. Simply measure from tip to sleeve on a patch cable, on both sides of the pedal (keep the input connected, so the pedal is powered up) - if you see more than a couple of millivolts, there's a DC leak. Replacing the capacitor closest to the input (or output, respectively) might help, as may adding a resistor (1M for starters) from that point to ground."

He was spot on - now I'm trying to figure out what causing this.
