Tricking out the '68 tele..orange squeezer content :-)

Sooo..this tele has a chamber under the pick guard, way enough room for my old Orange Squeezer compressor board..the chamber also has a tunnel to the control cavity..sooo..it is begging for something in there..room for a switch and probably a pot. What I'm thinking is putting the OS in the cavity and a on off switch or something else clever. I guess the first order of the OS is where in the schematic could I take away some presence in the tone of the compressor and/or thicken it up a bit. Then I guess the next question is turning it on off and do I want a volume control. Think Andy Summers kinda thing with the preamp in the guitar. Any ideas? I can get a new pick guard so drilling it doesn't matter. Also room for a neck hum there too! Thanks!

I always loved the roots bassist with the switchable TS/mid boost circuit in his bass (IIRC). There's an interview here...

Looks like you have plenty of space in that thing to stuff your favorite drive/boost/fuzz or comp circuit. Should make for an awesome axe.

Some part of me thinks a fuzz would be killer. Total tonal change without ever touching a stomp box. Might be fun...

The Squeezer board would for sure leave enough room in there for another small board. Batt in the control cavity.

I would say that since the route is already there you should go for it. I normally am very anti-mods to any vintage guitars, just on the basis that they're pieces of history. Even with the existing non-original routing it'd be great if you didn't have to route anything else. Of course, that is just my preference, and it's your guitar, so do whatever you want to do. Keep us updated!

That is one crazy rout! Is the original color under the pickguard?

I thought Orange Squeezers were really noisy? Maybe plunge rout a little deeper and put a PGC or FGC in there with the knobs sticking out of the pickguard!

I remember Devo, in the late '70s, had a ring modulator or fuzz taped to his Tele.

The old one I have is very quiet..the Analogman that I have on loan from a friend is noisier. The old one has more depth and a 3d quality..the Juicer is kinda thin..maybe Denny's watery OJ vs. fresh squeezed would be a good analogy! On another note, I would love to try a PGC or FGC but $$ doesn't permit at the moment and not sure it would fit in there.
