'Splain yer Handle !!!

[The Masked Marvel]

My handle is a tribute to a too often forgotten genius of American music, Charley Patton.

Paramount Records marketed Patton's 1929 recording of "Mississippi Boweavil Blues" as having been performed by "The Masked Marvel." They then encouraged listeners to write in to the label with their guess as to who actually recorded the song. The selected winner would then be given a recording of his/her choice.

The 1920's even had better marketing than we do now!

The "Hula" comes from my love of Tiki, retro and hawiian culture while the "katt" is from Bucky Katt from "Get Fuzzy". It's worked so well that I'm able to use it almost everywhere online.

Everybody thinks my handle because of some planet in the Star Wars movies. It's actually for my favorite album and one of the main reasons I picked up guitar - Houses Of The Holy.

The first part is due the music I love the most, i.e., blues, and the second part is part of my name. Blue-me, lol.

I allways got a kick out of hearing "check out guitar George" in "Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits so I made it my handle.
